The European Commission and EDL - 2022

Online conference: "Language competences at the service of youth"

As every year in September, the European Commission joins celebrations for the European Day of Languages. This year’s main event will take place on-line on 26 September from 12H00 to 14H00 CEST and will also celebrate the European Year of Youth 2022.

It will take you to a journey from Sweden to Portugal and from Estonia to Spain to discuss language aware schools and how multilingual classrooms and community activities foster inclusion.

We'll connect with some of the European Day of Language events taking place across European Union (EU) Member States. Young people will tell us how they feel about languages and how they influence their life.

In light of the large number of Ukrainian displaced children, the event will enable discussions about the support to include Ukrainian refugees into EU national education systems, with a particular focus on integration through language learning

#DiscoverTranslation

In addition, a social media campaign throughout September will focus on stories, videos and interviews from across the EU showing how translation has contributed to better healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic, how it made lockdown easier, and its importance for politics and business.

EDL events

The European Commission’s translation field offices are involved in the organisation of over 80 events taking place in cities around Europe! As a large number of the events are online activities, including quizzes, radio contests, webinars, interactive workshops, games, mini language courses and lectures – you can participate from anywhere. You can find details of all these events in the ECML online calendar and here.

The School Education Gateway

This European resource portal for teachers and school staff in 29 languages is focusing on multilingualism throughout September, with new articles, videos and news items.
