Centuries of migration and displacement have brought people from all over the world to Europe and with them their languages and their world views. Celebrating this day with us means celebrating languages of Europe like Punjabi, Igbo or Sylheti and Hausa and Bengali and many other so-called diasporic languages. We invite all students, alumni, staff, and friends of SOAS who want to share their experiences of language and identity to join our talks, workshops, and exhibitions.

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.
