Linguine - the board game

“Linguine” is a fun, educational board game created to celebrate the European Day of Languages.

The name comes from the Italian word, literally meaning “little tongues”- reflecting long, flat, ribbon-like shape of linguine, that resemble thin tongues. The game seeks to test players’ knowledge of the many and varied languages native to the continent of Europe. Linguistic diversity enriches communication and culture, just as culinary diversity does with food!

The game is primarily designed to be played in a classroom setting. Working together in teams consisting of 2-6 people, players advance on their journey by answering questions and taking challenges about languages.  Linguine seeks to highlight similarities, differences as well as some of the fascinating and amusing features of languages. This game is not just about winning — it is about encouraging teamwork, learning something new, and appreciating Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

In this pilot version of the game for true pioneers, a series of templates are available to be printed out and used in an offline format. Full details for setting up and playing the game are provided in the accompanying manual.

We would greatly appreciate your feedback and suggestions to help “Linguine” evolve into an even tastier dish in years to come!
