Speak Dating

​Interactive micro-lessons in 40 languages in a very busy arcade in the centre of Prague. There will also be other language-related activities on the spot, including a "Spot the language" paper quiz. The online quiz will be available at for several weeks before the speak dating event, with the deadline on 26 September. EDL will be promoted through a radio competition on a major Czech radio station (Radio Impuls - and a related spot promoting language learning and multilingualism. Campus Hybernská will also host a programme putting the translation profession in the spotlight. This will include a discussion with a well-known Czech translator of fiction, a live demonstration (also live streamed) of the use of CAT tools in literary translation, a workshop on subtitling led by an experienced subtitles translator, and a presentation by a dubbing translator. To enable people living elsewhere to participate in the main EDL event in Prague, we will run a public poll on the EDL website and on our partners' websites to select 4 languages. These will be streamed live through the Commission Representation Facebook page:

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.
