Celebrating Languages and Multilingualism The Language Council of Saarland and ICC – the International Language Association are pleased to host a special webinar featuring Prof. Thomas H. Bak, University of Edinburgh, in celebration of the European Day of Languages (26 Sept) and Multilingualism Day (27 Sept). Both days honor Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of diversity, inclusion, and lifelong language learning. 📅 25 September 2025 (Thursday) 🕕 18:00–19:15 CET Prof. Bak will share insights into how multilingualism strengthens the brain, supports cognitive health, and enables us to cross social, cultural, and neurological borders. Struggling to find ideas for an event for this year’s European Day of Languages? It can be challenging to organise events that are fun, inclusive, have an educational element and motivate a large number of people. Below are a few ideas to get your creative thoughts flowing, most of which are based on the principle of “starting small to go big”! 20 ideas for activities that can be carried in celebration of this year's EDL.

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.
