The secret code of communication

 Language Week, 22 sep 2025 - 30 sep 2025

Short Description: European Day of Languages gives us the opportunity to explore the secret code of communication and learn how to say "Hello," "Good morning," "Good night," etc. Students from Greece, Turkey, Romania, Poland, and Lithuania are participating in our project entitled "I play, I code (Play and code)." In this activity, they will record their voices greeting their friends in their native language. They will then turn this into a QR code and add it to a worksheet, which the young students will be asked to decode by writing the word of the greeting (e.g., Hello) and listening to how the word is pronounced by scanning it. All team members will collaborate to create the worksheets using Canva, and the little students will have the opportunity to explore, have fun, and learn!

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

2024's 'most innovative event' is
Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.

Congratulations to the winners!

We were greatly impressed by the creativity and great effort which went into organising the events submitted and would like to thank all organisers of EDL events in 2024.
