Voices of Europe: A Journey Through Languages, Cultures, and Time

On September 26, our high school in Trenčín will celebrate the European Day of Languages with an immersive, cross-curricular event titled “Voices of Europe: A Journey Through Languages, Cultures, and Time.” This day will bring together students and teachers from various subjects — including English, German, Spanish, Slovak, Geography, and History — to explore how language connects us across borders, disciplines, and centuries. Through a series of interactive stations and workshops, participants will discover e.g.: loanwords in Slovak from German, Hungarian, Latin, and beyond, European Words with Surprising Origins, digital word cloud of students’ favorite words and much more, including national culture, art and food.

Struggling to find ideas for an event for this year’s European Day of Languages? It can be challenging to organise events that are fun, inclusive, have an educational element and motivate a large number of people. Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.
