Giornata Europea delle Lingue 2025 a Venezia - European Day of Languages 2025 in Venice

Thursday, September 26, 2025, marked the celebration of the European Day of Languages across Europe. This year also Venice participated in the official celebrations with the event “European Day of Languages - Vehicular languages over time". Ca' Foscari University of Venice, with its Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies, the Veneto Regional School Office, the Italian headquarters of the Council of Europe, the Marciana National Library, and Europe Direct Venice Veneto of the Municipality of Venice—the European Union information network led by the Municipality of Venice in Veneto—organized the European Day of Languages 2025. On the occasion of the Marco Polo Literary Prize, a round table titled “Translation and Mediation in Europe” was held at the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice. The event brought together prominent speakers, including international lawyers Sophie Segond and Jean-Paul Tran Thiet—representing MEP Sandro Gozi—and Olivier Weber, diplomat, journalist, and writer. Moderated by Marie-Christine Jamet of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the discussion focused on the role of translation as a bridge for peace and intercultural dialogue in Europe.
