Poll: What is the best advice you can give someone starting to learn a language?

most
recommend? Or can you suggest others that are equally or even more important?
(Choose a maximum of 3)
Set clear goals
Breaking these down into manageable tasks based on your motivations for learning the language
Immerse yourself
Using all means at your disposal for a given period period of time, such as conversation practice, through books, movies, music, podcasts, travel etc
Use technology
Taking advantage of language learning apps, online resources and AI tools
Study ‘smart’
Tailoring learning according to your specific needs / focusing on balancing your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills
Embrace mistakes
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, instead take them with a pinch of salt and use them as opportunities to learn and improve
Engage with native speakers
For example through language exchanges, conversation classes or by travelling to a country where the language is spoken
Learn about the cultural context
to make learning more meaningful and authentic – using materials such as newspapers, documentaries, radio broadcast to experience the culture and language
Stay organised
For example keeping regular study times each day/week and/or maintaining a learning journal/portfolio to record progress
Use multiple methods
to identify what works best for you (don’t restrict yourself to one method, for example mix traditional textbooks with interactive apps, conversation practice, and cultural immersion
Stay motivated
Don’t give up even after setbacks! celebrate your successes and share them with others, for example via online forums or local groups of language learners
